A thanksgiving for the gift of a child provides an opportunity for parents and families to give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child and to pray for family life. It may be a public celebration in church, sometimes with a number of children, or it may be a private celebration at home or elsewhere.

This service is not the same as Baptism (sometimes called christening), which involves making a promise of ongoing membership of the church. A thanksgiving service is designed to meet the needs of parents who don't want their children to be baptised immediately, or who aren't ready for the level of commitment that the promises made at baptism require.

You are never too old to take this step, and being baptized as an adult is a very meaningful experience.

Adult baptism (also called believer's baptism) looks back in faith to the day you encountered Jesus and started to follow him. It marks the beginning of your committed journey of faith. It’s a symbolic picture of a present, ongoing reality.

We baptise adults by immersing (i.e. dunking) them in water to celebrate the fact that that they have experienced new birth through a work of the Holy Spirit. We only baptise adults who are active members of our congregation. 

If you were Christened as a baby you can personally reaffirm the vows that were made on your behalf by being immersed in water.

You will then need to contact a funeral director who will explain things to you step by step.

When you are ready, they will contact us on your behalf to make the arrangements.

After the arrangements have been made a minister from Holy Trinity will visit you to arrange the service.

Please bear in mind that our church building isn’t available for funerals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It is possible to hold a funeral service on Thursdays but parking may be limited because the church centre may be in use.

It’s a symbolic picture of the future hope that all Christian parents have for their children. We baptise babies by sprinkling them with water in church on Sunday mornings. However, if you aren't a committed Christian, or do not believe in the baptism of infants, we can offer a ceremony of Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child.

You are also able to choose a minimum of three godparents for your child. Because of the very special role godparents have in supporting your child’s faith journey the Church of England requires godparents to be baptised themselves. If the people who you'd like to be godparents aren't baptised, they may still be able to be involved in the baptism service and of course in your child's life as they grow up.
