Thought for June 2009
By Barbara Leppard.
Well the NCD survey is over.
The results are out.
It turns out that our weakest characteristic is inspiring worship services.
Does that surprise you?
The next step is to look at how we can make our worship more inspiring.
Personally I think that as a starting point we need to understand what worship is,
and then how we can learn to do it better.
In the Bible worship means ( Read Psalms 18, 95, 96, 145 and 150 )
- to give God the glory due his name
- to bow down before Him
- to revere and pay homage to God
- to come towards God to kiss Him
- an act of profound adoration
- to lift our hands in absolute surrender to Him
- to draw near to God
- to bless God
- to be in fearful awe of God
- to give ourselves to God in loving affection
- to praise Him – to be boastful about Him - to make a noise about Him -
to brag about Him - to magnify Him, to be really excited about Him.
That means that we are all involved. I am involved. You are involved.
It doesn’t depend on the vicar or whether the music group choose songs that I like.
Worship is for God. It is all about what pleases Him rather than what pleases us.
When we come together on Sundays we are to come prepared to have an audience with God himself.
To honour Him and bless Him. To give all that we are and all that we have to Him.
In other words, when the collection bowl comes round, don’t just put your money in it but get in yourself!!
